It’s that time of year again where no matter what time you go to the gym; there are never any parking spaces. We’ve all done it, decided that there is no better time to start a fresh workout routine than at the beginning of the year. If you’re anything like me, then it lasts all of a week or maybe a month before this well thought-out routine becomes more of an irregular occurrence.
For 2014, HireNetworks has made a new year’s resolution to encourage healthy behavior for the entire year! We have come up with 4 easy modifications that will make an impact at home and in the office.
1. Wireless Activity Tracker
By simply wearing a bracelet, the Fitbit tracks the amount of calories you burn, sleeping patterns and the number of steps you take in a day. It’s easy to keep track of since it syncs with mobile devices, and you can even compare how well you are doing with your friends on an easy to use Dashboard.
For the Holiday’s every employee at HireNetworks received a Fitbit bracelet. The hope is that this will enlighten employees about the amount of activity that they do within a day and encourage employees to take a couple steps towards a healthier life style.
2. Standing Desk
It’s widely known now that sitting can lead to many unhealthy problems including back pain and heart disease. Unfortunately, in today’s society, we all spend at least 40 hours a week sitting in front of our computers.
For the past 6 months, HireNetworks has been testing different ways to avoid the sitting disease. The best solution we have found was the Standing Desk. This is a desk enables the user to adjust the height of the computer. You can move from a sitting level to a standing position by simply raising the desk. This year, HireNetworks is encouraging its employees to use the standing desks.
3. Pilates Balls for Sitting
The longer you sit at your desk, the worse and worse your posture gets. That is why HireNetworks provided Pilates balls for people to sit on while working.
By sitting on a ball instead of in a chair, your body is constantly making adjustments to ensure that you stay on the ball. This not only forces your body to engage large muscle groups throughout the day, but also forces you to improve your posture. This increases balance and reduces back injuries!
4. Rival Health
Rival Health is a fitness program that is accessible from the comfort of your living room. These DVDs and workout schedule have you spending less than 1 hour each day getting your recommended daily exercise.
HireNetworks provided this program to their employees in 2013, and because of the success, they are going to continue it through 2014.
The idea behind these 4 healthy solutions is that HireNetworks isn’t asking their employee to change their routine. Things as simple as wearing a bracelet, adjusting your desk, switching your chair for a ball and exercising while you watch TV are manageable healthy options that are attainable for the foreseeable future.
As a HireNetworks employee, I can see that 2014 is going to be a healthy year for the entire 12 months, not just the first couple…
